The Punjab Civil Services acronym The PCS Exam is aimed at recruiting prospective candidates who are entrusted with the following responsibilities: -Provincial services and positions connected with the affairs of the province -Positions in or under a corporation or other Government organisations under any law or as otherwise prescribed.     Note:

    1. Both the papers will be of objective type multiple choice questions.
    2. Duration of each paper for preliminary examination will be two hours. However, visually impaired candidates will be given additional 20 minutes.
    3. There will be no negative marking in the written preliminary examination test, however, there may be negative marking for any objections to the Answer Key found false/frivolous/not supported by authentic evidence.
    4. The question paper shall be bilingual and shall be printed in English (Roman script) and Punjabi (Gurumukhi script) except for questions where candidates’ proficiency in the language is to be tested.

    Note:

    1. All papers shall be descriptive in nature and duration of each paper will be three hours. Visually impaired candidates will, however, be allowed an extra time of 30 minutes in each paper.
    2. The main competitive examination shall include seven compulsory papers.
    3. Candidates will have the option to attempt all the papers, except the language papers in the Punjabi or English medium.
    4. Candidates exercising the option to answer Papers in the Punjabi language may, if they so desire, give English version within brackets of only the description of the technical terms, if any, in addition to the version in the Punjabi language.
    5. The question papers other than language papers will be set in English. However, when any candidate opts for attempting any paper(s) in Punjabi medium, the question papers shall be printed in Punjabi accordingly.
    6. No candidate shall be considered to have qualified the competitive examination unless he obtains at least 45% marks in the aggregate in the main examination including interview marks (read 40 % for the candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes), except in the case of main competitive examination for which this percentage has been lowered to not less than 40% (read 35 % for the candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes) by the Commission in which case the qualifying percentage shall be as determined by the Commission.

    Selection Procedure

    The selection process for filling posts in various departments based on the PSCSCCE-2018 will be made by holding an examination. The examination shall be conducted in three stages namely:

    1. Preliminary Examination
    2. Main Examination
    3. Interview

Exam Syllabus

Educational Qualification:

  • The candidate should possess a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university or institution. Provided that the candidate may be permitted to take Preliminary Competitive Examination while studying for his degree. However, the candidate shall be required to produce proof of passing the degree course for being eligible to take the Main Competitive Examination during that year.
  • No candidate shall be eligible for appearing in the Preliminary Competitive Examination, unless he/she has passed the Matriculation Examination with Punjabi as one of the compulsory or elective subjects or any other equivalent examination in Punjabi language, which may be specified by the Government from time to time on or before the last date of submission of Application Forms.

Age limit:

  • Candidates should not be below 21 years and above 37 years of age as on January 01, 2018 except the posts of Deputy Superintendent of Police and Deputy Superintendent Jails/District Probation Officers.
  • For the posts of Deputy Superintendent of Police and Deputy Superintendent Jails/District Probation Officers, the candidates should not be below 21 years and above 28 years of age as on January 01, 2018.

Physical Standards

The candidates who will opt for Punjab Police Service should meet the physical standards set by the authority.

  • Minumum Height: Men- 5 feet 7 inches, Women – 5 feet 3 inches
  • Chest Measurements(Applicable for men only): Unexpanded – 33 inches, Expanded – 34.5 inches
Our Approach

  • The strategies for PCS paper are different from IAS. PCS Prelims is an objective type exam including GS & CSAT. Each paper includes 150 questions and there is negative marking. There is combined cut off and the cut off went to 197 in 2012. Hence, the candidate should aim to score 200 which is absolutely workable. The General Studies Paper asked is very conventional type & thrust areas are History, Geography, Polity, Economy, Science & Punjab. Some questions of Computer are also added. Some portion of Current Affairs related to Punjab is also included. The preparation of conventional subjects should be done from the books. Besides that, Gurmarg Educare provides notes that are quite sufficient to deal with conventional subjects. This part can alternatively be prepared from NCERTs of 10+1 & 10+2. Science part is only of 10th level. However, one should thoroughly & deeply read the study material provided to them. The questions asked are from deep lying facts in the chapters. In Geography, stress on Indian & Physical Geography is laid. In History, Modern History & History of Punjab is asked more than Ancient & Medieval History. In Economy, basic concepts & section of International Organizations is asked. The Polity questions are totally covered from GURMARG EDUCARE Study Material. General questions like Current Summits & other events are also asked. A student can easily attempt more than 100 questions. Candidate should not leave even a single question unattempted as there is no negative marking. CSAT is easy to crack than GS. More emphasis is laid on Reasoning Ability and Reading Comprehension. In addition to some Punjabi questions, around two thirds of the questions are asked from the above-mentioned subjects. In real terms, CSAT is more of speed testing than skill testing. Hence, the students should not leave any question unmarked since there is no negative marking. Indeed, attempting combined Mock Tests would surely help. Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) conducts the PCS exam to select the candidates for the varied services in Punjab.The posts include the post of executive, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), ITO (Income Tax Officer), ETO (Excise & Taxation Officer) various allied services. The PCS exam is considered as most prestigious exam at the Punjab State level. .
